We were thrilled that Fashion Marketing student Bliss Burgess chose to spend her year-in-industry learning the ropes at The Bright Media Agency. Now that she’s heading back to university, we asked her to put pen to paper and tell us all about it!
I’m studying Fashion Marketing at the University of Leeds, and last year I decided to do a year-in-industry to gain experience in a professional working environment before I graduate, while working on real life projects. I knew that the skills I would acquire would be something that can’t be taught while in a lecture, and this experience would help to improve my chances in a competitive job market after uni – as most employers are looking for graduates with work experience in a relevant field.
I chose to study a marketing degree as it’s both creative and challenging. Marketing is such an essential component of a successful business, and with the brand awareness, engagement and sales that it generates, I believe it’s a highly rewarding field to work in. During my time at the The Bright Media Agency, I contributed towards a range of client projects, as I completed admin and worked alongside the editorial, PR, sales and design teams. I enjoyed working on lifestyle product features for British Eventing Life magazine, as well as writing creative features for Eat magazine, along with many other tasks I completed during my placement! The tasks I worked on really complemented my course, while giving me ‘real world’ experience too.
Working at The Bright Media Agency has helped me to understand how an agency runs and taught me that it’s a really exciting environment to work in, with lots of variety. I would definitely be looking for a similar opportunity upon graduating, following such a positive experience! I also run my own business, so I’ve been able to pick up tips and extra knowledge along the way.
First though… I have the summer holidays to enjoy! My summer holiday plans so far are to enjoy the sunshine on as many holidays as possible, before a tough final year of essays at uni!
We’ve loved having you, Bliss. Good luck at uni!!
